Heads up, Bay Area travelers: a significant detour is coming your way if you're heading north on I-75. As the roadwork saga continues, the latest chapter unfolds with the 44th Avenue East extension project necessitating overnight rerouting. Starting on August 24, for folks rolling northbound, you're looking at a detour via SR 70, Lakewood Ranch Boulevard, and SR 64 to reconnect with I-75, according to the announcement by Manatee County.
The Florida Department of Transportation and Manatee County are putting a temporary kink in your journey, with detours kicking in from 11 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. nightly, set to wrap by early September. According to their announcement, this reroute is about placing steel girders for a bridge over the northbound lanes, with the girders moving from one side to the other.
Project No. 6 is what they're calling this final installment of the 44th Avenue East Extension Project. It’s a clever addition that stretches 1.9 miles of new pavement from west of I-75 over the interstate to Lakewood Ranch Boulevard. Lena Road also gets involved, extending to SR 70.
