Hillsborough County residents looking to expand their family with a furry friend have a prime opportunity this month, as the "Clear the Shelters" campaign returns for its tenth year. As reported by Hillsborough County's newsroom, the Pet Resource Center (PRC) is waiving all adoption fees and even throwing in a complimentary goodie bag with essentials for new pet parents from Aug. 10 through Sept. 10. Prospective adopters can select their new pet companion by visiting the PRC, which is currently home to over 400 animals in need of homes.
The shelter is offering pet adoptions at no cost to free up space and improve the lives of animals like Kayin and Eve. This initiative is part of a national effort by Clear the Shelters, which has facilitated over one million pet adoptions since 2015. More information about the pets available and the terms of adoption is listed on the County's website.
The only open-admissions animal shelter in the county, Hillsborough County Pet Resource Center, is dedicated to accepting any dog or cat, regardless of health. According to its description, the PRC provides pet owners with financial difficulties with food pantries, spay/neuter vouchers, and registration tags for their pets. It goes beyond adoption. This comprehensive approach to animal welfare promotes pet health and responsible community pet ownership, addressing short-term needs and slowing down the long-term increase in shelter populations.
The Clear the Shelters campaign emphasizes the transformative benefits of pet adoption for individuals and families, with dogs like Bert, who wear bowties with dignity, waiting for goodwill. They form ties that are both endearing and essential, metaphorically situated at the nexus of animal tenacity and human empathy. Residents can attend the PRC Monday through Saturday starting at 10 a.m. to participate in this life-affirming adoption program. till 5 p.m., or begin their internet hunt to locate an animal that catches their attention.
