Last night, the peaceful evening of North Austin was disrupted when an unattended skillet led to a house turning into a blaze. Just before 8 p.m., the Austin Fire Department was called to a single-family home on the 12000 block of Heyerdahl Drive. The department reported that the crew worked rapidly to not only extinguish the fire but also to ensure that it did not spread to the neighboring houses.

The Austin Fire Department quickly responded and managed to knock down the fire, a task completed by 8:19 p.m. The firefighters also made multiple searches of the property to ensure that nothing living was left behind to be claimed by the fire. In a statement given to CBS Austin, the officials said that the cause of the fire was due to cooking that was left unintended — a simple oversight that, on this occasion, resulted in a significant displacement.
Fortunately, this incident did not result in any injuries, but it did leave two residents without a home. Firefighters ventilated the home after the fire was knocked down, which helped to clear the smoke and gases and made it safer for subsequent investigation and repair efforts. Despite the material losses, it is a poignant reminder of the importance of fire safety and the quick response of local services which prevented this event from escalating further.
