In Oakland, a tragic event unfolded as a 33-year-old father was critically injured by a stray bullet while he was asleep in his East Oakland home. Run Hua Kuang, a father of two, found himself fighting for his life following the incident that occurred last Thursday afternoon on the 2200 block of East 19th Street, per East Bay Times.
Authorities, still piecing together the grim details of the shooting, which is currently under investigation by Oakland Housing Authority police, have not announced any arrests or released suspect information at this time after the round penetrated the exterior of Kuang's home and his skull. Kuang is now on life support in the intensive care unit following a seven-hour surgery, according to a GoFundMe page set up by his sister Jasmine Kuang, who has been left dealing with an unforeseen and grave financial burden in the wake of her brother's injury. Kuang worked as a delivery truck driver and provided for his young family, including a wife, a 7-month-old infant, and a three-year-old daughter, as well as his parents. Kuang is notably the primary English speaker within his household, his role irreplaceable, the added weight of his absence now bearing down on his already distraught family.
The incident has sparked an outpouring of community support, as evidenced by a GoFundMe fundraiser to offset medical and survival costs for the family. At the time of the report, the fundraiser has collected over $70,000 of its $150,000 goal. "This shocking incident has left the entire family traumatized and in deep distress", the fundraising page states. Jasmine Kuang's emotional plea underscores her brother's commitment to his loved ones, as he is described as "disciplined and devoted as a husband, father, and son," a fact echoed in the family's GoFundMe post.
