Oceanside Unveils Greenbrier Village: A New Supportive Housing Complex in the Fight Against HomelessnessSource: City of Oceanside

The City of Oceanside is marking a new chapter in its quest to combat homelessness with the opening of Greenbrier Village. This supportive housing complex offers 59 units complete with permanent, onsite services aimed at helping the homeless or those at risk of homelessness, as reported by the City of Oceanside.

Funded by Oceanside's Measure X, social workers coordinated many individuals moving into the new homes, including assistance on moving day. The facilities hold 50 apartments reserved for the homeless population, five of which are specifically for veterans and three geared towards young adults coming out of foster care. Additionally, nine apartments serve residents with extremely low incomes, while an apartment is designated for a manager to occupy.

Residents at Greenbrier Village will have access to a comprehensive suite of services intended to promote housing stability. Onsite case management includes care coordination, mental health services, physical and behavioral health services, and employment development. Local agencies, including the Hope through Housing Foundation, the County of San Diego Behavioral Health Services, and the US Department of Veterans Affairs, manage these services.

Located near the Crouch Street SPRINTER Station on Greenbrier Drive, the project includes case management offices, a central courtyard with a terrace and barbecue area, a community garden, and laundry facilities. Led by National Community Renaissance and San Diego Community Housing Corporation, it received funding from the City of Oceanside, San Diego County No Place Like Home Program, Hudson Housing Capital, and JP Morgan Chase Bank.

Greenbrier Village is part of Oceanside's efforts to tackle homelessness, alongside the Oceanside Navigation Center, which opened in July 2023, and a year-round shelter. Other initiatives include Measure X-funded Bridge Housing, two Homeless Outreach Teams with social workers, and various programs to prevent and end homelessness.
