The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is currently looking into a fatal shooting that involved an off-duty Atlanta Police Department officer on Old National Highway, College Park, Georgia. The deceased has been identified as 38-year-old Devon Anderson, according to the GBI.
The events unfolded in the early hours yesterday, with reports suggesting that the incident arose from an argument that culminated in gunfire. Officer Melvin Potter, 30, was allegedly involved in an altercation with a group outside a bar located at the 5000 block of Old National Highway, which, ultimately led to the tragic outcome. In the aftermath of the dispute, it appears Potter discharged his weapon, striking Anderson.
Following the shooting, Anderson received emergency medical attention but was pronounced dead at the local hospital. His body has been transported to the Fulton County Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy to further investigate the circumstances of his death.
