The Omni San Diego has unveiled two new dining experiences for visitors and locals, capitalizing on its prime location next to Petco Park. After pouring $30 million into renovations, the hotel has introduced Ace Porter and Tortuga, aiming to capture the essence of Baja California cuisine and baseball lover's interests.
According to Eater San Diego, Ace Porter has taken residency where McCormick & Schmick’s Seafood & Steaks used to be, adding a unique twist with a baseball motif to the bar area. The menu plays into this theme, featuring items categorized under playful labels like "designated hitters" and "post-game."
Apart from its quirky interior with leather bar seats and baseball-like chandeliers, a highlight at the street-level venue is the collection of dishes such as the blackened Angus burger and the unconventional chicken and waffle cone sundae. SanDiegoVille reports that the space, crafted by Director of Outlet Operations Priscilla Reyes and Executive Chef Wenceslao Zavala, also offers an inviting atmosphere with a cylindrical bar and stadium-inspired lighting.
Moreover, the Omni doesn't stop at ground level, taking guests to its rooftop restaurant, Tortuga. Here, patrons are privy to a stunning view of the city skyline combined with a 10,670-square-foot terrace that features indoor and outdoor seating. As Eater San Diego details, executive chef Wenceslao Zavala draws on his experience running a food truck in Rosarito Beach to provide coastal dishes such as grilled Baja fish tacos and shrimp adobada.
With a grand opening party for Tortuga on August 28, the stage is set for music, inventive drinks like blood-orange bellinis, and a tasting of the establishment's signature dishes. The Omni hotel, nestled at 675 L Street in the heart of Gaslamp Quarter, aims to attract both baseball fans and culinary adventurers with its latest gastronomic additions and the promise of refreshed poolside and event spaces.
