An Orange County man stands accused of the heinous crime of murdering a 13-year-old girl, after a grand jury indicted him on grave charges, including first-degree murder. Jerry Dorisme, 28, was indicted by a grand jury for not only the murder of the young Rosethalie "Rose" Dieujuste but also kidnapping with intent to inflict bodily harm or terrorize, sexual battery, and attempted sexual battery, as per WFTV.
This tragedy unfolded on the Fourth of July when authorities were summoned to an apartment complex following a distressing call. Upon arrival, they discovered Rose with fatal stab wounds. According to the sheriff's office, the girl was found half-naked in a closet with "obvious signs of trauma." Despite swiftly transporting her to a hospital, her wounds proved too severe, and she passed away, ClickOrlando reported.
Dorisme, the alleged perpetrator, was previously known to law enforcement, having been arrested in 2020 on a count of lewd and lascivious molestation of a child, which was reduced to child abuse. Sheriff John Mina, in a chilling revelation, disclosed that his behavior prior to Rose's death included walking down the street brandishing a knife and being witnessed watching young girls in the area. In the wake of the murder, it did not take long for the community to help identify Dorisme. Tipped by surveillance video evidence, law enforcement apprehended him.
Complicating the legal proceedings is Dorisme's competency to stand trial. His public defender filed a motion of incompetency, urgently claiming Dorisme may not be fully able to grasp the charges against him or to effectively engage in his defense. A medical expert, after evaluation, supported these concerns, finding him not competent to proceed, according to the WFTV report. Nevertheless, Dorisme is set for a pre-trial hearing on November 20th, with the murder trial slated to begin on December 2nd.
