According to the Sheriff's Office post, the incident unfolded as the gang unit was monitoring a location frequented by gang members. When an individual suspected of being involved with gang activities emerged from the dwelling with a firearm, patrol deputies were called to engage. The deputies encountered the man at a 7-Eleven on West Oak Ridge Road, where he reportedly failed to comply with orders to halt and reached for the gun in his waistband. This prompted one deputy to fire upon the man, while another struggled to safely secure the weapon. Tragically, despite receiving first aid from the deputies, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The release of this video comes as a part of the Orange County Sheriff's Office's ongoing efforts to openly communicate with the public regarding officer-involved shootings and other critical incidents. "We think it is important for members of our community to view the entirety of what is released, rather than rely on short snippets they may see elsewhere," the Sheriff's Office stated.
