An Orange County teenager has been arrested and charged in connection with the death of her 16-year-old boyfriend, after a tragic incident involving a firearm. The Orange County Sheriff's Office reported that deputies responded to a call at the 1100 block of Easton Street, where they discovered David Anthony Vargas Acker with a gunshot wound, as detailed by WFTV.
The incident, which occurred just before 1 a.m. on July 30, ended with Acker being pronounced dead at a hospital. Following the shooting, deputies reported that Acker had been at the residence with his girlfriend and another friend. The group had been posing with the gun and pointing it at one another, a gun that Acker himself had brought to the home. During their play, the girlfriend, whose identity has not been disclosed by officials due to her age, pointed the gun at Acker and fatally shot him.
In a follow-up to the investigation, the Orange County homicide detectives consulted with the State Attorney’s Office. They concluded that there was cause to charge the teenager with aggravated manslaughter of a child, according to information reported by FOX 35. The girlfriend was subsequently arrested on Wednesday and taken to the Juvenile Assessment Center.
