Gunfire erupted in a residential area of Oregon House on Saturday evening, leading to the arrest of a local man. According to a Facebook post by the Yuba County Sheriff's Department, deputies were dispatched after reports of shots fired on Drake Way shortly after 8 p.m.

It all began when an adult and a juvenile, both unnamed, sought to confront the driver of a pickup truck they witnessed driving recklessly on Manzanita Lane in the vicinity. They attempted to record the truck's license plate when 35-year-old Corby Sargent, the resident of the address they approached, brandished a firearm and opened fire as they retreated. No one was hit by the gunfire.

The situation escalated when deputies arrived on the scene and were also fired upon by Sargent, narrowly avoiding injury. The Yuba-Sutter Regional SWAT Team was consequently called to the scene, and a search warrant for Sargent’s residence was issued. The multi-agency response included the California Highway Patrol, YCSO Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Team, YCSO Crisis Negotiations Team, YCSO Problem-Oriented Policing Team, and YCSO Detectives.

Following the service of the warrant, Sargent was taken into custody without further incidents. He faces charges of assault with a firearm and shooting at an inhabited vehicle, as detailed in the Yuba County Sheriff's Department statement. Sargent now awaits his day in court while being held at the Yuba County Jail.
