Oviedo residents prepping for potential heavy weather have a one-day opportunity to fortify their homes. The city announced a self-serve sandbag distribution on Saturday, Aug. 3, from 8 a.m. to noon at the Public Works Yard located at 1725 Evans Street. The City of Oviedo's official announcement reminds people to bring shovels, though city staff will be on-site to assist those who need help. A limit of 10 bags per household has been set.

Everyone has been directed to enter and exit via Evans Street off County Road 419. According to the city's statement, signs will guide the drivers to the location. Meanwhile, not to cause a hassle for the police, the city pleads, "Please do not try to go around the barricades for the safety of our officers, staff and other drivers." For a visual guide, a map of the operations is available for convenience.

Meanwhile, roads surrounding the pickup area, including parts of Evans Street and Lockwood Blvd, will be closed to through traffic. Oviedo Police will monitor the closures, ensuring the operation runs smoothly and safely.
