The streets of Puna witnessed a tragic turn in events, as a pedestrian struck earlier this week on Ainaloa Boulevard has died. Andrea-Gabrielle Miller, 49, of Pahoa, succumbed to her injuries on August 8, after being hit by a Hyundai pickup truck while reportedly crossing the road at an unmarked crosswalk, according to Hawaii Police Department.

On the morning of August 5, at approximately 5:43 a.m., police were called to the scene near Palm Way where they discovered Miller unresponsive. She was promptly transported to the Hilo Benioff Medical Center in critical condition, but despite efforts to save her life, she passed away days later. Hawaii Police Department reports indicate that neither speed nor impairment are believed to be contributing factors in the collision.

An autopsy has been ordered to determine Miller's exact cause of death. Meanwhile, the 36-year-old man driving the pickup truck, whose identity has not been disclosed, was uninjured. Witnesses to the incident have stepped forward, aiding the ongoing investigation by the East Hawai‘i Traffic Enforcement Unit, as they piece together the circumstances of this fatal occurrence.
