Carroll County has a new Deputy Chief/Director of Operations for its Department of Fire/Emergency Management Services (DFEMS), and it's a familiar face with deep roots in the community. Mr. Paul Supko, hailing from Westminster, has been tapped for the role after a rigorous selection process, equipped with a career spanning over three decades in fire and emergency services. Bringing a wealth of experience to the table, he officially stepped into his new shoes on August 1, according to the county's official announcement.
Supko's extensive background includes a 33-year tenure at the Anne Arundel County Fire Department (AACFD), where he most recently held the position of Captain/Executive Officer in their training and research division. Commanding AACFD's Special Operations was among his previous assignments. Along with an array of certifications and specialties, from Haz-Mat Tech to Rescue Diver, Supko is also a seasoned instructor and has been part of the FEMA/Urban Search and Rescue Maryland Task Force.
Community ties are nothing new to Supko, who has witnessed and been part of the growth of the DFEMS from its nascent stages. In a display of his commitment to involving all sectors of the department, Supko told county news, "I am driven to achieve an effective leadership role in our career/volunteer Fire/EMS system, where I can contribute to the growth and success of the team while involving all members; career, volunteer, and civilian personnel!" His plans point to an inclusive framework that leverages the strengths and dedication of the whole fire and emergency community in Carroll County.
