The incident, which took place at The Meadows Family Fun Mini Golf in Duncansville, was reported to the Pennsylvania Game Commission, which swiftly dispatched a game warden to the scene. Photos from the unusual rescue were posted by the commission, offering a whimsical glimpse at the furry creature amidst a sea of plush toys. According to FOX6NOW, Warden Salvadore Zaffuto arrived to find the groundhog scurrying around underneath the stuffed animals.

Once on the scene, Warden Zaffuto needed assistance from the vending machine company to unlock the claw machine, following which, he managed to capture and release the unharmed groundhog back into the wild, as detailed by the Pennsylvania Game Commission on Facebook. The Meadows Family Fun Mini Golf, however, decided to embark on a different kind of quest – a quest for a suitable name for their inadvertent visitor. Suggestions poured in from the local community, with names like “Duncansville Dan,” “Meadow,” and “Serenity” in the mix. There was a brief moment of confusion when The Meadows' Facebook page teased the groundhog's return, though a representative confirmed to Nexstar that it was only a playful post and not an actual return of the animal.

Remarkably, the newfound celebrity of this groundhog didn't halt at just evoking name suggestions from an amused public. Some fans even humorously proposed that the groundhog might stand a chance to rival known Pennsylvania mascots such as Punxsutawney Phil or the lottery mascot, Gus the Groundhog. Despite the playful conjecture and proposals for a "little hotel" for the groundhog in an old machine, the miniature golfer with fur was destined for wilder pastures.

Meadows Original Frozen Custard in Hollidaysburg asked their Facebook followers to help name a new furry mascot. After a social media buzz, the name Colonel Custard was chosen, cleverly referencing both the groundhog's cozy setting and the shop's famous custard.
