The City of Philadelphia has announced important details regarding the upcoming Philly 10K on Sunday, which includes road closures and parking restrictions that will affect residents and visitors alike. Now in its 11th year, the race is set to kick off at 7:30 A.M. on the 800 block of South Street and introduces a new event called The Kids Dash designed for children ages two to four, starting at 10 a.m. at 3rd and Bainbridge Streets.
For those planning to navigate the city on race day, a host of streets will be temporarily closed off to accommodate the event. According to the city's announcement, South Street from 4th to 11th Street and several nearby intersections will shutter starting at 2:00 A.M., with the broader route following at 7:00 A.M. The closures will affect areas stretching from South Street down to 7th and from Locust up to Christian Street, among others, and are expected to lift by noon, except for the post-race festival area which remains closed until approximately 2:00 P.M.
Motorists are being warned to expect delays and are advised to park their vehicles outside of the 'Temporary No Parking' zones, which will be in place from 1:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. on race day. Those who ignore the signs may find their vehicle relocated, and a call to the local police district should be the first step in locating a moved car. Additionally, various SEPTA bus routes, including the 12, 23, 29, 40, and others, are set for detours, details of which can be found on SEPTA's System Status Page.
Public transportation is recommended for spectators and participants heading to the race. SEPTA's Broad Street Line and the PATCO service from New Jersey offer nearby station stops for convenient access to the event. For attendees' safety, the city's services will be in full force with law-enforcement support, traffic control, and emergency medical services on the scene. The Philly 10K is described as a rain or shine event, so participants should come prepared for any weather scenario and will be alerted if extreme conditions affect the race. Various items, including strollers and bikes, are not permitted at the event, and attendees are reminded to keep their belongings attended to at all times.
