In the early hours of Sunday morning, an aggressive fire broke out in a multi-use church building in Phoenix, causing significant damage. The Alhambra Beloved Church, situated near 19th and Glenrosa Avenues, became the focus of firefighting efforts around 1 a.m., according to Arizona's Family. Originating in the gymnasium, the blaze then expanded to classrooms on both the first and second floors of the structure.
The volunteers had constructed the church building and gymnasium in the mid-20th century, with design stylings attributed to Robert “Ralph” Parachek. While the firefighters chose an aggressive interior attack to combat the fire, this approach successfully prevented the fire from reaching adjacent buildings on the property, including the church's main sanctuary. Despite the severity of the fire, Arizona’s Family reports that no one was injured or displaced by the incident.
The incident's cause has yet to be determined, and investigations are ongoing. Although the building was used previously by Great Hearts Christos Academy, the school has since moved to Catalyst Church. As for the regular activities of the church, including prayer at 9:15 a.m. and services at 10 a.m., the impact of these services remains uncertain. Justos suggests that it remains to be seen whether the building will be operational for these services later in the morning.
The church leader affirmed that services would continue as scheduled on Sunday morning, as the church itself was spared from the flames. However, due to the disabling of the air conditioning in the kids' church building, adults and children will consolidate in the same service session. In a show of solidarity, Great Hearts co-founder, Dan Scoggin, stated, “Our prayers are with our dear friends at Beloved Church as they recover from this tragic fire. They are an amazing church with a record of grace and love in serving their community, especially those most in need," as detailed by AZ Family.
