Pittsburgh Police, drawing expertise from their Narcotics, Violence Prevention Unit, and Downtown Public Safety Center detectives, ventured beneath the overpasses of Grant Street, targeting two tents that lay between First Avenue and Fort Pitt Boulevard. According to the Pittsburgh public safety blotter, detectives uprooted quantities of crack cocaine and lorazepam pills, stoking beliefs that these were primed for distribution.
Caught in the crossfire, Davidt Brown and Daidra Lomax found themselves handcuffed and facing narcotics charges. Tracy Smith, ensnared by an unrelated warrant, was arrested, while William Mazon and Lamar Williams received a summons for possession. Having crossed the threshold of legality, these five individuals sang the same chorus in their statements.
Following the raid, a cleansing will ensue. Public safety personnel are tasked with sifting through the encampment, removing any health hazards or trash tangled amidst personal belongings. Following city policy, anything considered a personal belonging will be stored, as reported by Pittsburgh's public safety website.
