A federal grand jury in Pittsburgh has indicted a local resident, Keith Harris, 25, on a firearms law violation. Harris is facing a charge after allegedly possessing a firearm and ammunition on June 11—a direct conflict with federal law for a previously convicted felon, as reported by the U.S. Attorney's Office, Western District of Pennsylvania, announced earlier today.
Having been previously convicted as a felon in possession of a firearm and/or ammunition in 2022, Harris is once again in the sights of federal law enforcement that strictly prohibits the possession of firearms or ammunition by individuals with felony convictions. Managing the prosecution on behalf of the government, Assistant United States Attorney Kelly M. Locher is said to be taking the lead, according to the Department of Justice.
Understandably, the stakes are high with the law prescribing up to 15 years in prison and fines that could reach $250,000. However, these numbers are not set in stone, as the final sentence is expected to reflect the severity of the crime in tandem with Harris's past run-ins with the law.
