Motorists in Pittsburgh need to brace themselves for some significant road closures next week. The Department of Public Works has announced that the inbound Armstrong Tunnel will be shut from the evening of Friday, August 9 to the evening of Sunday, August 11. Moreover, the Second Avenue ramp from westbound I-376 (Exit 71B) will not be available from early morning to evening on both Saturday, August 10, and Sunday, August 11. The closures are due to necessary cleaning and are part of a broader $13.1 million rehabilitation project that is currently underway, according to Allegheny County.
During this period, traffic that normally passes through the inbound Armstrong Tunnel will have to reluctantly find alternative routes. The recommended detour will make use of Second Avenue, Ross Street, and Forbes Avenue. Additionally, those affected by the Second Avenue ramp closure can take the detour using the ramp from westbound I-376 to Grant Street (Exit 71A).
