Tragedy struck the Sacramento community on La Riviera Drive this Monday when gunfire was reported shortly after 5:00 p.m. Sacramento Police arrived on the scene to discover a male adult with a life-threatening gunshot wound. Despite officers' efforts to save him until emergency medical personnel took over, the victim was ultimately pronounced dead at the scene. Per the Sacramento Police Department, a second victim was found down the street and is currently stable after being transported to the hospital.
Amid the ensuing investigation, officers detained Austin Greer, a 25-year-old from Plumas Lake, who was later arrested and is facing homicide charges. The circumstances that led to this violent event are still being pieced together, by homicide detectives and crime scene investigators who have taken the lead on this case. They are processing the scene, sweeping the area for additional information, and speaking to potential witnesses,
The community now mourns an unidentified individual whose name will be disclosed by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office after the notification of relatives. As the investigation moves forward, the Sacramento Police Department has appealed to the public for assistance. Confidentiality is assured for those who opt to remain anonymous, and the police have mentioned that tips leading to a breakthrough in the case may result in a reward up to $1,000.
