Tragedy struck a south Phoenix neighborhood Thursday morning, as police began an investigation into the death of a man found inside a home, showing evidence of having been shot. The residence, positioned close to 7th Street and South Mountain Avenue, became the epicenter of an unfolding inquiry into the events that led to 51-year-old Jesus Larson's untimely demise.
Reported by FOX 10 Phoenix, the body was discovered before 7 a.m. last Thursday. Phoenix police spoke of "obvious signs of trauma", indicating violence had been a companion to the man's death. The neighborhood was unsettled by what neighbor Wayne McGriff described as "rapid firing" that shook the early hours, speculating, "I would assume it's some type of assault rifle", or something similar, in a statement obtained by FOX 10 Phoenix.
According to AZ Family, the victim, later identified as Larson, had suffered at least one gunshot wound. Initial reports suggest that the shooting may have occurred at around 2:00 a.m., though officers did not arrive until the morning after. The area was soon blanketed in the stark reality of an active crime scene, marked by evidence like shell casings littering the street.
Phoenix Police Sgt. Rob Scherer was recorded stating, "Specifically, what and when this happened, I can't say at the time of the incident he was alone or the only one inside the house. Maybe there were others." He continued to explain that narrowing down the timeline was crucial for piecing together what transpired within the home's walls, according to a FOX 10 Phoenix interview. Meanwhile, authorities continue their appeal for public assistance.
