A Portage County grand jury has indicted 27-year-old Steven M. Ferguson on multiple charges after he allegedly raped a 9-day-old infant girl. The incident occurred at his home in Nelson Township on August 3. Ferguson is accused of first-degree felony rape, second-degree felony sexual battery, third-degree felony gross sexual imposition, and three counts of first-degree misdemeanor domestic violence.
Following his arrest earlier in the week, Ferguson is currently held at the Portage County Jail on a $500,000 bond. He is scheduled to quickly face arraignment in Portage County Common Pleas Court on Monday morning. The additional charges of domestic violence stem from allegations that Ferguson also caused harm to three family or household members on the same day as the assault on the infant. One of the purported victims was identified as a 13-year-old girl, according to WKYC.
In connection with the case, court records also allude to an incident involving a 29-year-old woman, who is believed to be associated with the family or household of Ferguson, who he is accused of either harming or attempting to harm. These charges bring to light a harrowing account of violence that extended beyond the helpless infant to other individuals within what should be the sanctuary of a home environment, as reported by Cleveland19.
Ferguson continues to remain incarcerated, with the bond amount reflecting the severity of the accusations against him. The public defender appointed to Ferguson has yet to comment on the charges or the upcoming court proceedings publicly.
