A Portland man was taken into custody by the Washington County Sheriff's Office after detectives from North Carolina initiated a tip about his alleged interactions with minors online. The suspect, identified as 68-year-old Jon Scot Taylor, came under investigation following authorities' alert.
According to KOIN, an undercover deputy posed as a 13-year-old girl during an online conversation with Taylor. The exchange reportedly grew sexually explicit, ultimately leading to plans for a face-to-face meeting scheduled last Friday. This sting operation was an attempt to intercept the suspect's alleged plans before any minors could be harmed.
Taylor now faces serious legal repercussions as he was arrested and booked on charges of luring a minor and online sexual corruption of a child in the first degree. KATU and KPTV outline the case's specifics, indicating that the arrest was the culmination of a collaborative effort between law enforcement agencies operating in different states. Taylor's intentions, as understood by authorities, were to exploit a minor for sexual purposes.
The investigation remains ongoing as officials seek to determine whether there are additional victims who may have been contacted or harmed by Taylor. Detectives in North Carolina and Oregon are now trying to piece together the scale of Taylor's online activities. They urge anyone with information related to the case, or those who might have been affected, to come forward and assist in the investigation.
