Fake threats propagated through social media channels have put the Prescott Valley Police Department (PVPD) on high alert as officers increase their presence in and around Pronghorn Ridge Middle School and Bradshaw Mountain High School, according to an official press release issued by the department.

It was on Thursday that the PVPD was notified about unsavory and threatening posts making rounds on various social media platforms, all of which were traced back to inauthentic accounts, and the diffusion of these threats was further exacerbated as students began to share them secondhand – fueling unnecessary panic amongst peers and parents alike, as the department categorically stated that these threats appear to be unsubstantiated upon investigation, the Prescott Valley official site reports.

In a proactive response to the situation, the PVPD has beefed up security measures, deploying additional School Resource Officers to the schools of concern while bolstering the sense of safety among the student body and school staff.

The PVPD calls on the public’s vigilance, urging anyone with information or who notices unusual activity to step forward and report it. Non-emergency contact is made possible via 928-772-9267 or 1-800-932-3232 for Yavapai County Silent Witness and emergencies should still utilize the 911 service.
