On July 16, tragedy struck at the intersection of Tennessee Street and Vervais Avenue in Vallejo, where an adult female was found lying in the street, a victim of both an apparent car collision and gunfire. The Vallejo Police Department responded to the incident and ultimately provided medical assistance before she was transported to a hospital. The collision involved a Mercedes-Benz ML350, an Isuzu Trooper, and a Kia Soul.
Vallejo Police Department's Homicide Detectives quickly took charge of the investigation, working to unravel the circumstances that left the woman injured in the chaos. Their efforts have now culminated in the arrest of Jacoby Etter, a 46-year-old Rancho Cordova resident. According to the Vallejo Police Department, Etter was arrested yesterday and booked into the Solano County Jail on a charge of murder. Details about the cause of the incident or Etter's motives remain undisclosed.
The situation takes on a deeper layer of sorrow and complexity upon learning the identity of the deceased. Henry K. Lee, a journalist, confirmed through social media that the victim was Sharmell Mitchell, aged 48. Mitchell is no stranger to tragedy. She is the sister of Willie McCoy, who was fatally shot by Vallejo police in a Taco Bell drive-thru.
After obtaining an arrest warrant on Wednesday, Vallejo Police, in collaboration with the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office Special Enforcement Detail, acted decisively to apprehend Etter in the 4300 block of Malana Way. The operation was executed without incident.
