A community is mourning the loss of 8-year-old Ryan Akagbusi, a nonverbal boy with autism, who was reported missing from Richmond and later found dead in a nearby lake. The Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office had issued an Amber Alert for Ryan yesterday after he went missing from the 19900 block of Kendall Lake Drive early that morning; wearing a pink shirt with an iguana design, he was also described as being approximately 5 feet tall and weighing 65 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes, as reported by Houston Chronicle.
The search that stretched over the weekend culminated earlier today when Texas Equusearch discovered Ryan deceased in the lake near his last known location, which led to a tragic end to the rescue operation that had involved various local, the law enforcement and community volunteers had hoped would bring Ryan home safely. The confirmation of his passing came through a phone call with KPRC2, however no additional information regarding the circumstances of Ryan’s death was available at the time of reporting.
In response to the tragic events, the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office has urged the community to provide any details that could help elucidate the full picture of Ryan's disappearance and death. Ryan who was nonverbal, would respond to the sound of his name, as previously noted by the Sheriff’s office in public appeals for help during the search.
The Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office is dealing with the investigation into Ryan's death and no further details are available at this time.
