A young man died following a vehicle accident in Rio Linda yesterday evening, with authorities investigating whether driving under the influence was a contributing factor.
The crash occurred near Rio Linda Boulevard and Crystal Road around 6:54 p.m., where the man's Toyota truck overturned after he made an unsafe turn, which "caused the truck to veer off the road into a tree," as reported by ABC10. Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District reported to ABC10 that the driver was freed from the truck by firefighters, initially his condition described as life-threatening during transport to the hospital, and there were no passengers present in the vehicle at the time of the incident.
After being extracted from the wreckage and transported with what were initially thought to be moderate injuries the driver's condition worsened and he was subsequently declared dead at the local hospital, as mentioned in an article by CBS News Sacramento.
The California Highway Patrol has stated that they are looking into the involvement of DUI in the crash, while further details remain pending as of their latest updates the CHP spokesperson told CBS News Sacramento.
