Three individuals are now facing charges after a failed theft spree at a mall in Roseville, California. According to a Facebook post by the City of Roseville, California Police Department, on Tuesday, August 24, the trio attempted to make off with high-end sunglasses, an espresso machine, and various fragrances.

The supposed ringleader of the group would identify premium sunglasses for their associates to discreetly steal, a tactic that quickly accumulated $2,643 in stolen goods. Their next target was an espresso machine, priced at $1,500, followed by fragrances and a collection of makeup amounting to $1,579. However, their plan to quickly slip away was compromised as the authorities caught up. The police officers were able to not only halt the getaway car but also recover all of the stolen merchandise.

All three suspects were arrested and are now facing several charges, which include theft and conspiracy. As disclosed by the police department, the specific charges are under California Penal Codes 490.4, 487, and 182. The penal code citations correspond to organized retail theft, grand theft, and conspiracy, respectively. This attempt to pull an elaborate heist has thus landed the individuals in a situation far removed from their presumably sought-after easy payday.

Witnesses and mall employees were key in helping to track down the suspects. Their cooperation with law enforcement made it possible to quickly identify and detain the individuals responsible. With a trove of evidence recovered from the vehicle, the culprits' short-lived criminal endeavor turned out to be a one-way ticket to facing the judiciary system. The City of Roseville Police Department humorously noted that the suspects' "espresso" plan didn’t quite brew the outcome they had hoped for.
