On a Thursday evening in Mattapan, a routine delivery took an unexpected turn. At approximately 6:31 PM, a delivery person became a victim of a robbery at 16 Estella Street. The suspect allegedly approached from behind, appropriated the package, and threatened to attack the victim before escaping a vehicle. This narrative unfolded as detailed in a report by the Boston Police Department, according to the police statement.
Following leads from the incident, detectives embarked on an investigation that led them to the registration details of the suspect's vehicle. A subsequent Boston Police Operations broadcast of a Be On The LookOut (BOLO) for the car ensued. It wasn't long before an officer on detail spotted the vehicle in question on Washington Street, which led to a collaborative effort involving marked cruisers to make a traffic stop at the intersection of School Street and Walnut Street.
Upon stopping the vehicle, authorities apprehended 28-year-old Garvis Arias Lara from Roxbury. Mr. Lara was subsequently arrested and charged with Unarmed Robbery. The vehicle implicated in the robbery was towed, pending a search warrant to possibly substantiate the charges brought against Lara. The press release from Boston PD conveyed the coordination and swift action taken by officers from different districts to secure the arrest.
Lara is set to face the consequences of his actions at the Roxbury District Court. The fate of the stolen package, as well as the details on whether it was recovered, remain undisclosed at this time. This case is a reminder of the risks faced by delivery workers, who often serve as an unsuspecting target for those looking to exploit the vulnerability of courier operations. More information on this case is likely to come following Lara's arraignment.
