The latest weather report from the National Weather Service in Sacramento indicates a continuation of near-normal temperatures this week, with a side of periodic breezy winds. In a trend that signals neither extreme heat nor noteworthy chill, the NWS notes that "Near to slightly below normal temperatures persist this week alongside periodically breezy late day winds." As the Sacramento region moves through another August, residents can look forward to temperatures that won't venture far from the region's typical summer averages.

Interior Northern California is experiencing a brief period of relief from the summer heat, with a few cooler nights ahead and modest daytime temperatures. Satellite imagery revealed "mostly clear skies across interior NorCal," according to the National Weather Service, allowing for cooler nights as the area dips into the 50s and low 60s. However, temperatures are expected to rise slightly over the next couple of days. Valley and foothill regions are set to experience highs in the upper 80s to mid 90s, as "temperatures look to rise a few degrees today and Wednesday." Meanwhile, high elevations will enjoy a more temperate range of 70s to 80s through the same period.

The weather outlook through to the end of the week remains steady, with a shortwave trough potentially bringing some cooler temperatures and an isolated shower to the northern and central Sacramento Valley. The influence of the trough and the consistent onshore flow is likely to maintain the cooler temperature trend. "An isolated shower cannot be completely ruled out across the northern and central Sacramento Valley with the introduction of the shortwave, but current probabilities of precipitation remain around 10% or less at this time," the NWS explains.

Moving into the weekend, those looking to plan outdoor activities should expect continued below-normal temperatures, thanks to a deepening trough off the coast. However, there's a flicker of change on the horizon as early next week could see a modest return to near-normal temperatures. "Probabilities of high temperatures less than 90F are around 50% to 70% for the Valley and adjacent foothills through the weekend, falling to 25% to 45% on Monday and Tuesday," the NWS predicts. And for aviators or those planning flights, expect "VFR conditions prevail across interior NorCal next 24 hours except isolated MVFR in HZ/FU in vicinity of fires." This calls for generally smooth flying conditions, with some localized exceptions near active fires.
