A Sacramento man is currently facing charges after a disturbing incident left a toddler hospitalized with serious injuries. The Sacramento Police Department reported that the child was in critical condition following the event that prompted an arrest of the mother's boyfriend yesterday.
In the wake of the early morning hospitalization, detectives from the homicide unit and child abuse unit were spearheaded to thoroughly investigate the circumstances that led to the child's condition. Police responded to the hospital around 3 a.m. after the child was brought in from a residence on La Almendra Way, according to ABC10. Though details regarding the cause of the injuries have not been disclosed, the gravity of the situation necessitated a robust response from law enforcement to quickly get to the bottom of the matter.
53-year-old Elbert Pritchett was arrested in connection with the case, now facing charges of felony child abuse as well as a firearms charge. Law enforcement officials remained at the scene in the Valley Hi / North Laguna neighborhood for extensive periods, collecting evidence from the home as part of the investigation, as KCRA reported.
Neighbors expressed their shock and concern over the incident. "It's shocking to know something like that would happen to a child," Ajit Singh, a local resident, told KCRA 3. Meanwhile, another neighbor, Birinda Gutierrez, noted the unexpectedness of such an incident in what she described as normally "a quiet neighborhood."
