As the Labor Day weekend approaches, the City Hall, along with most municipal offices, will shut their doors on Monday, September 2, to mark the holiday. However, for those counting on certain public services, not all will grind to a halt. The police and fire departments are maintaining normal operations, as well as emergency services, ensuring that public safety remains a priority over the holiday period, as announced by the City of San Antonio official website

Residents can still access a range of services, according to the released schedule. The 3-1-1 Call Center will continue to be operational between 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. and again from 5 - 11 p.m., focusing on urgent matters such as animal concerns and traffic signal malfunctions. Animal Care Officers will be present to attend to any related issues, and Code Enforcement Officers will be available for emergency coverage and inspections. Those planning to enjoy downtown areas will benefit from an on-street parking meter holiday, making it a little easier to relax and enjoy the city. However, off-street City-operated garages and lots are not included in this reprieve. Outdoor pools and City parks are staying open, offering a spot of recreation for those off work, with details of locations and hours available on the Parks and Recreation website.

Waste collection services will not skip a beat either, with garbage, recycling, and organics pickup adhering to the regular collection schedules all week. For the active amongst us, though the offerings are leaner, there will be limited Fitness in the Park classes. A visit to the Parks website can confirm the schedules for those wishing to partake.

However, not everything is business as usual. The Central Library and all San Antonio Public Library locations will take a day off, along with a list of other facilities including the Spanish Governors Palace, Head Start administrative offices, and various community centers among others. These closures may necessitate planning ahead for those who might otherwise have sought out these services. A complete list of closures can be found within the city's announcement. Those needing legal or administrative assistance will find Municipal Court magistration services and various administrative offices open for business, where necessary services such as SAPD's detention center will stay operational.
