San Antonio's vibrant street culture takes center stage this weekend with a smorgasbord of local events that mesh community spirit with Xicanx flair. First on the agenda, the San Anto Cultural Arts is throwing its annual Barrio Block Party today, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. This bustling soiree will lure attendees with an array of local art vendors, community orgs, and live music, the San Antonio Report details.
Kicking off August's Xicanx month festivities, the Dock Space Gallery is set to unveil 'Y Todo Lo Que Somos/Everything We Are' on Saturday between the hours of 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. The exhibit showcases a collection curated from the creative wellsprings of four local talents: Gilbert Martinez, Lee Ortiz, Edward Perez, and Gloria Chavera Ramirez. Meanwhile, Jose Cosme's 'Un Poquito De Todo/A Little Bit of Everything' will simultaneously grace the walls of the main gallery. The gallery promises to deeply explore the rich tapestries of Xicanx identity and expression.
Not to be outdone by visual arts, the city's soundscape will be vibrantly represented by Grupo Tan Tan who are scheduled to hold the crowd with their live performances at the Block Party. To add to truly get to savor the local scene, Puro's Ice Cream will be on-site ensuring the summer heat is kept at bay with their chilly treats.
Wrapping up this weekend's cultural jaunt, the Central Library continues to play host to 'Bajo La Sal'. This exhibition, a collaboration of Mauro de la Tierra's paintings and Joshua Anthony Rodriguez's portrait photography spotlights San Antonians who, through their art, contribute to defining the city's aesthetic and cultural landscape. The exhibit runs until September 14, with a closing ceremony poised to offer a finale inclusive of an artist talk at 1 p.m.
