In an incident earlier today, a rideshare driver was seriously wounded after being shot in the back on Anchor Drive in the Castle Hills area. According to KENS 5, the shooting took place before 12:30 a.m. near Lockhill Selma Road and West Avenue, as the driver was in the process of picking up a passenger.
The situation rapidly escalated when the passenger reportedly engaged to openly fire back at the assailant's vehicle. A witness described to police hearing the shots and seeing a vehicle driving backwards on the street, as reported by News 4 San Antonio. Investigation at the scene revealed shell casings both inside and outside the rideshare vehicle, suggesting a gunfight had occurred between the passenger and someone outside the car.
The injured driver was found alone at the scene when authorities arrived and was subsequently transported to University Hospital in serious condition. The current status of his health has not been disclosed to the public.
Police are actively conducting investigations to track down the unknown shooter and the passenger involved in the incident. As of now, no arrests have been made, and the authorities continue to search for leads.
