San Diego authorities have apprehended a suspect connected to the homicide of a 55-year-old Hispanic male in the O'Farrell neighborhood with the assistance of cutting-edge ALPR technology. The San Diego Police Department received reports last Saturday of a man found deceased in his residence on Madrone Avenue, prompting an investigation that led to the swift arrest of the alleged perpetrator. Francisco Cruz, the victim, was found with stab wounds and pronounced dead at the scene by San Diego Fire-Rescue personnel, the City of San Diego reported.
While family members had initially gone to check on Cruz when he failed to arrive at work on time, the case rapidly evolved after the victim's car, believed to be stolen by the suspect, was placed on a "hotlist" within the Automated License Plate Recognition system. Within a day, an alert from the ALPR system indicated the vehicle's presence in Dana Point. Following a brief foot chase yesterday, David Nava, a 22-year-old San Diego resident, was arrested after being flagged down by an Orange County Sheriff’s Deputy in Doheny Park Road, Capistrano Beach, according to the City of San Diego.
In a parallel account, Hoodline reported that San Diego Homicide Detectives were actively working the scene, trying to piece together the relationship between Cruz and the suspect. The investigation continues as they seek to understand the circumstances that led to Cruz's tragic end.
Now in custody, Nava faces charges of murder and vehicle theft, with his arraignment scheduled for Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. The San Diego Police Department and the Orange County Sheriff's Department collaborated effectively in apprehending the suspect, who was transferred to San Diego County Jail following the capture, and the authorities have expressed their gratitude for this joint effort.
