Residents and visitors gearing up to scope out the new Panda Ridge exhibit at the San Diego Zoo might need to pack some patience along with their excitement. Starting Thursday, Aug. 8, the City of San Diego has issued a traffic alert for the Balboa Park area as hordes of animal enthusiasts are expected to descend. There will be a noticeable uptick in vehicular activity, particularly on Park Boulevard and the surrounding areas, from Aug. 8 to Aug. 11, then set to continue on weekends through the end of the month.
As reported by the City of San Diego, to help visitors see the pandas smoothly without the headache of hunting down a parking spot, the San Diego Zoo is offering a free shuttle service that picks up and drops off at the Inspiration Point parking lot. Visitors planning their trips can quickly grab a few tips and tricks on the Zoo’s 'Plan Your Visit' webpage.
The city also encourages people to consider public transport as an alternative to conquer the expected congestion. The Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) offers enhanced connectivity with convenient bus lanes on Park Boulevard. Buses like Rapid 215 and Route 7 are ready to provide direct access to the zoo. Don't forget, youths under 18 are in luck, as they get to ride for free thanks to the Youth Opportunity Pass.
For those more inclined to enjoy the San Diego sunshine, dedicated bike lanes, and visible crosswalks are there to ensure a safer jaunt for pedestrians and cyclists alike. And let's not leave out the rideshare crowd—the main Zoo Entrance is the suggested rendezvous point for pickups and drop-offs. If you're in need of more details on how to navigate through Balboa Park during this busy period seamlessly, the City’s website has got you covered with more information.
