The San José Police Department is currently investigating a traffic incident that resulted in the death of a pedestrian, marking the city’s 34th traffic fatality and 13th pedestrian fatality this year. According to a statement from the SJPD, the collision occurred on Thursday, at around 8:49 PM, at the intersection of Hostetter Road and Automation Parkway.

The collision involved a 2005 grey Toyota pickup truck and an adult male pedestrian. Reports say the truck, traveling westbound on Hostetter Road, struck the pedestrian outside any marked crosswalk. The vehicle was occupied by an adult male driver and an adult female passenger, both of whom have not been identified by authorities. Following the incident, the pedestrian was taken to a local hospital, where, unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries.

The pickup truck driver remained at the scene and cooperated with the police investigation. Detectives are now looking for witnesses and any additional information regarding the fatal collision. The name of the victim has yet to be released, pending notification of next of kin by the Santa Clara County Coroner's Office.
