A young man of 20 years old is now part of an attempted homicide investigation after being shot in the face on Tuesday night in Santa Rosa. The incident occurred at around 11:30 pm on Sunset Avenue. It was only reported when the victim, who has remained unidentified due to the sensitivity of the ongoing case, sought out immediate medical attention at an area hospital.
As detailed in a recent Facebook post by the Santa Rosa Police Department, casually driving, an assailant fired at least two shots into the young man's vehicle, one of which struck him. However, whether the shots were fired from another car or not is still unclear. After being wounded, the man was able to move his vehicle out of harm's way before a passenger took over the driving duties to hasten their arrival at the hospital.
The Santa Rosa Police Department's Violent Crimes Team and the Gang Investigations Team are handling the case, which they believe to be gang-related. In a statement on the department's Facebook page, authorities mentioned that "there is no outstanding risk to the community" despite the lack of a suspect.
Investigative efforts by the SRPD Gang Crimes Team are vigorous as they call for the public's input. A reward of up to $2,500 is available by the Sonoma County Alliance Community Engagement and Safety Rewards Fund for information leading to the apprehension of the involved suspect or suspects.
