Authorities in Schaumburg are presently engaged in a hunt for a group of jewel thieves who orchestrated a heist at Woodfield Mall, resulting in the loss of jewels exceeding $1 million in value. The target, Marquise Jewelers, was breached by a minimum of six burglars who, according to the Chicago Sun-Times, innovatively cut through the drywall from a neighboring vacant storefront on the night of August 1.
This crime scene was stumbled upon not by those patrolling the premises but by an unsuspecting construction worker the following morning, around 9:30 a.m., who noticed a hole in the wall of the vacant store, ostensibly left behind by the thieves. As reported by NBC Chicago, the revelation that over $1 million in jewelry was missing came only afterward, as the store took stock of the aftermath.
Complicating the investigation, the Schaumburg police have disclosed that one of the surveillance cameras within the shop was deliberately obscured. "One of the surveillance cameras also was covered," the police mentioned, as stated by NBC Chicago. Detectives have since been fervently probing the burglary, piecing together scant evidence in an attempt to apprehend those responsible for the high-stakes robbery.
