This week, two separate shootings have rocked the Arizona community. In Scottsdale, gun violence penetrated the everyday hustle of grocery shopping on Tuesday evening. According to FOX 10 Phoenix, two men were hospitalized and remain in critical condition after an altercation escalated into a shooting inside an Albertsons grocery store.
The incident occurred near the intersection of Scottsdale and Thomas roads, where an argument among three individuals outside the store moved indoors and erupted by the self-checkout area. One victim collapsed inside the store, while the other managed to exit, being discovered later at the back of the premises. As Scottsdale Police piece together this disturbing event, they are considering whether the injured men shot at each other, interviews with the third involved party are underway, and witness statements, as well as security footage, are currently under review.
Merely an evening before, Phoenix was the backdrop of another shooting. Around 8 p.m. on Monday, police rushed to a condo near 24th and Van Buren Streets responding to gunfire. They discovered a man, now hospitalized, with serious but not life-threatening injuries from a gunshot wound, as reported by AZ Family. Investigators are still combing the scene to ascertain what precipitated this act of violence, and no suspect has been identified at this time.
This spate of gun-related occurrences has left local residents on edge. Witnesses at the Albertsons shooting narrated their harrowing experiences. "I saw this individual go around the corner, and then he dipped towards the back of the store," one witness named Todd described the chaos to FOX 10 Phoenix. Another remarked, "People were flooding out about this time. It seemed like it was a long time. I heard multiple rounds go off on a different caliber."
