David Brown, a 70-year-old man who was reported missing on August 13, has been the focus of an ongoing search effort. The search began after a concerned individual called the Hernando County Sheriff's Office upon losing sight of Brown while they, along with a dog, were walking in a wooded area near Batten Road in Brooksville. The dog returned alone, prompting the individual to notify the authorities after their own search proved fruitless.
After arriving on scene, deputies, alongside K-9 teams, the Civilian Mounted Unit, and the Aviation Unit, began a meticulous search of the area. They have extended these efforts to involve multiple agencies, such as the Pasco Sheriff’s Office, the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, Hernando County Fire Rescue, and the Sheriff's Emergency Response Volunteer Team.
David Brown was last seen on surveillance footage walking through the woods, heading southbound toward Hayman Road, at about 10:40 a.m. the day he went missing. According to the Hernando County Sheriff's Office, Brown is a white male with gray hair, a gray goatee, and a thin build. He was wearing a white shirt with blue stripes and blue shorts and was possibly down to one sock with no shoes.
Authorities are concerned due to Brown's significant medical issues and are urging residents in the surrounding area to check their properties for any signs of Mr. Brown. Nighttime search efforts by units equipped with infrared capabilities have yet to yield positive results. Residents are advised to look in any sheds, outbuildings, parked vehicles, and areas with dense vegetation on their properties. If anyone has seen Mr. Brown or knows of his whereabouts, they are encouraged to contact the Hernando County Sheriff's Office at 352-754-6830 or dial 9-1-1 in an emergency situation.
