A Seattle neighborhood was the scene of a crime crackdown after police nabbed an individual linked to a string of mail thefts in the Gatewood area of West Seattle. The arrest occurred two weeks ago, but details were provided by the Seattle Police Blotter just yesterday. On August 7th, at the cusp of midnight, officers journeyed to the 7900 block of 35th Avenue Southwest, responding to a 12:51 a.m. call about a masked man prying into mailboxes.
Police reports indicate that the suspect, discovered in the vicinity, was found in possession of various items: a mix of pilfered mail, what are suspected to be absconded bank cards, a metal pry bar, and a concealed, loaded firearm. Lingering in the midnight air, seven members of the community watched as their mail security had been compromised, their quiet neighborhood stage to a "one-man crime spree," with the suspect pilfering their correspondence.
The detainment of the 28-year-old man came with a series of charges: Theft of Mail, Criminal Trespass, Malicious Mischief, and Unlawful Carry of a Pistol. An expired Concealed Pistol License tucked away among his belongings reflected that he was undoubtedly not sanctioned to bear the firearm. The weapon in question, a Beretta APX 9mm semi-automatic handgun, was confiscated and sequestered as evidence.
Following the arrest, the local authorities earmarked the case to the General Investigations Unit. Marching toward a judicial reckoning, the suspect's charges have been relayed to the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, spanning the gamut of his offenses, including Possession of Stolen Mail.
