Seattle Parks and Recreation is reaching out to the Queer, Trans, and Allies community with an invitation to a special event this month. On Sunday, August 11th from 2-4 pm, Meadowbrook Pool will host the All Gender Recreation Swim, a gathering aimed at fostering a safe and inclusive aquatic environment. The event is free to all ages and welcomes the entire community, regardless of gender identity.
Details posted by Seattle Parks and Recreation specify that the event will feature full access to the pool's amenities. This includes diving boards, a rope swing, a sauna, and both access stairs and an ADA lift. Privacy curtains will be in place, while communal locker rooms will be made gender-neutral. For those seeking more privacy, there are also 2 single-stall locker rooms available.
This initiative is part of a broader effort to create safe spaces for queer and trans individuals to enjoy recreational activities without fear of discrimination or discomfort. According to the Seattle Parks and Recreation's website, "This event is designed to provide a safe swim experience for queer and trans individuals but is open to all."
The All Gender Recreation Swim at Meadowbrook Pool is one of several events that Seattle Parks and Recreation has developed to support inclusivity within the community. The arrangement of privacy curtains, the transformation of locker spaces, and the very ethos of the event speak to an ongoing commitment to ensure everyone feels welcome. For more information on the event, attendees are encouraged to visit the official Seattle Parks and Recreation post.
