Three teenagers were arrested by Kent Police following a chase involving a stolen vehicle. The youths, aged 16, 15, and 13, were detained after police executed a pursuit intervention technique to stop the alleged stolen vehicle, as reported by the Kent Reporter. According to the authorities, the 16-year-old male driver from Seattle is being investigated for possession of the stolen vehicle, eluding, and obstructing public officers.
The incident unfolded at approximately 4:12 p.m. on Tuesday when a Kent Police officer identified a suspect Hyundai Elantra on Central Avenue North and South 228th Street. The officer reportedly waited to be joined by another before they attempted to gradually carry out a high-risk traffic stop. The police successfully halted the vehicle, and the juveniles were said to have been arrested without incident, as stated in the I Love Kent article.
The driver now faces charges including possession of the stolen vehicle, eluding, and obstructing public officers. His passengers were arrested for vehicle trespass and obstructing public officers, following visible damage to the ignition and the car itself, which hinted that it had been stolen. "Great job by Officer Green in intercepting the stolen vehicle and using calculated tactics to quickly bring the pursuit safely to an end," the Kent Police were quoted in a statement obtained by I Love Kent, which also celebrated Officer Robinson, who made the arrest without needing his K9 partner.
Subsequent to the halt of the vehicle, the young driver and two passengers exited and attempted to flee on foot. As mentioned by KOMO News, the driver was swiftly apprehended by an officer. The search for the passengers led to the detention of a 15-year-old girl at a nearby apartment complex, while the third passenger, a 13-year-old, was also located and arrested without further incident. All three juveniles are Seattle residents and they now face various charges in connection with the stolen vehicle and their actions throughout the incident.
