Mark your calendars, Seguin residents, because the city's Fall Clean-up Day is back. Scheduled for September 28, this event offers locals a chance to dispose of unwanted items free of charge. From 8 am to noon, the Seguin Coliseum parking lot at 950 S. Austin St will become the go-to spot for citizens looking to declutter their homes and yards.
Those looking to participate will need to show proof of residency, such as a photo ID or utility bill. According to a statement provided by the City of Seguin, city employees are set to offer their assistance to help with unloading the items from vehicles and trailers. In a time when community efforts can often feel disjointed, such initiatives foster a sense of cohesiveness and shared responsibility.
Public Information Officer Jennifer Sourdellia stressed the advantage of the event, saying, "This is a prime opportunity for citizens to clear out their yards and homes of unwanted, broken or old items. We’ll take care of getting it disposed of safely and properly," as per the City of Sequin.
There are, of course, limitations to what can be disposed of on Clean-up Day. A a maximum of 10 automobile tires per resident will be accepted, with a prohibition on certain types including tractor-trailer, mower, bicycle or ATV tires. Further specifications state that tires with rims or those larger than 19.5 inches in diameter are off the table, as are tires from local businesses.
Additionally, the event includes free paper shredding services, accepting up to two bags or boxes of documents for secure on-site destruction. Residents should be aware that brush, hazardous chemicals, construction materials, old fences, and appliances containing freon or other refrigerants will not be accepted.
