The Seguin Fire Department is opening its doors to the community for a special "push-in" ceremony to welcome the arrival of a new state-of-the-art fire apparatus. The ceremony is set for 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 24, at the Central Fire Station located at 110 Elm Street in Seguin, as the City of Seguin announced.

The event will be more than just ceremonial pomp, as the department will also offer refreshments and tours of the fire station. Visitors will have the opportunity to mingle with the firefighters, and experience up close the new ladder truck, dubbed Truck 1. This addition to the fire department's fleet is a 2023 Pierce Ascendant, a ladder truck that extends up to 100 feet, carries 450 gallons of water, and can pump an impressive 2,000-gallons per minute, and notably, features a rear steering mechanism designed for maneuvering through tight spaces.

Fire Chief Dale Skinner shared the department's enthusiasm about the new ladder truck, "We are excited to add this new ladder truck to our fleet and continue providing the highest level of service to our community," Skinner said. Participants at the event will get a firsthand look at the truck's capabilities, which are expected to enhance the responsiveness and effectiveness of the department in serving the people of Seguin, according to the Seguin Fire Department.

Further, carrying on a longstanding firehouse tradition, the "push-in" ceremony harkens back to the late 1800s when firefighters had to manually push their equipment back into the firehouse after detaching it from horses. Seguin's ceremony will involve firefighters pushing Truck 1 backward into the bay to mark its first service day.
