In a recent development from Shelby County, a 17-year-old named Montrell Kinds has been charged as an adult with first-degree murder after a fatal shooting incident. The district attorney's office stated that Kinds is accused of killing Javodrick Gordon while he was asleep in his home on April 16. Kinds faces additional charges of especially aggravated robbery, evading arrest, and murder in the perpetration of a felony.
The bond for Montrell Kinds has been set at a staggering $3 million. During a recent preliminary hearing, the defense seemed to unsuccessfully attempt to shake the firm resolve of the state to hold Kinds accountable for his alleged actions. As reported by FOX13 Memphis, Kinds claimed the shooting occurred following a struggle over a gun, but this account was countered during testimony.
Two officers gave different views that raised questions about the defense's story. "There was no indication of a struggle between Kinds and the victim," one officer testified, as reported by FOX13 Memphis. The Shelby County District Attorney's Office also noted that statements supposedly made by Kinds during his interview are under review. This, along with the seriousness of the crime, likely influenced the court's decision to set the multimillion-dollar bond.
The case is getting a lot of attention because of the serious charges and the young age of the accused. They remain in detention with a high bond following the preliminary hearing. The ruling, as reported by the Shelby County DA's Facebook page, was a win for the state and shows ongoing efforts for justice in the death of Javodrick Gordon.
