Yesterday evening, in the neighborhood of Mira Mesa, a traffic incident turned an otherwise ordinary street into a scene of vehicular havoc. A 30-year-old man, behind the wheel of a 2009 Honda Civic, raced eastbound along the 7200 block of Calle Cristobal. It was here, according to the San Diego Police Department Watch Commander's Log, that the driver lost control. Speeding at a rate deemed excessive, he attempted an overtake maneuver, darted into the adjacent lane, and devastatingly collided with the concrete center median, subsequently smashing into two trees.
The crash, which took place near the heart of Mira Mesa, resulted in severe injuries for the man. Medical assessment revealed a grim list: a brain bleed, a fractured skull, and a burst at the L3 vertebra. Despite the severity of his wounds, it was reported that his injuries were considered non-life threatening. He was transported to a local hospital after the crash, and healthcare professionals have closely monitored his current condition. Alcohol, perhaps surprisingly in incidents of such violence, was not a factor. Hence, the cause of the crash is yet to be unearthed.
Post-collision, the SDPD Traffic Units and the Traffic Investigations Unit (T.I.U.) arrived at the scene, taking charge of the investigative efforts to unearth the events that led up to the crash. Local authorities are still piecing together what transpired and have encouraged anyone with information to come forward. San Diego residents and witnesses can contact Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477, which can help provide closure, not just to a case file, but to a communal narrative searching for answers.
