An incident in East Austin early Thursday morning led to a SWAT team response at the Urban Villas Apartment Homes, with the suspect still on the run, as reported by CBS Austin. Authorities were summoned to the apartment complex, located at 4411 Airport Boulevard, around 12:45 a.m. after reports of a possible shooting or stabbing.
Upon their arrival, Austin police found a man in his 40s with serious injuries, and he was promptly transported to a local hospital with injuries deemed non-life-threatening. Officer Jeremy Fisher, during a press conference, said, "The initial information provided to the officers at the scene led them to believe that the suspect had gone back inside the apartment and locked the door." This led to the engagement of the Travis County SWAT team. Despite the swift response and strategic operation, law enforcement found no suspect within the apartment.
According to KXAN, the Austin Police Department, the Travis County Sheriff's Office, and SWAT were all involved in the hours-long operation. The nature of the victim's injuries and the relationship to the suspect have not been clarified, nor has a description of the suspect been made available to the public.
Officials believe the occurrence to be an "isolated incident" and do not perceive an ongoing threat to the public. Fisher emphasized, "investigators do not believe there is an ongoing threat to the public," describing the situation as isolated, but the suspect's identity remains unknown. Police are urging anyone with information related to the episode to come forward and contact Crime Stoppers at 512-472-8477 with any potentially helpful details.
